L'enjeu des apparents extrêmes, la contrebasse et la voix, crée le charme surprenant de ce programme hautement original servi par les spécialistes tous azimuts du genre.Il existe une belle complicité musicale entre la chanteuse portugaise Sofia Ribeiro et le contrebassiste luxembourgeois Marc Demuth qui ont parcouru les clubs de jazz d’Europe et des Etats-Unis. Le répertoire de cette formule intimiste va des grands standards à la musique pop en passant par le jazz brésilien et le fado.

Since two years of intense musical complicity, which started in Barcelona, the Luxemburgish doublebass player Marc Demuth and the Portuguese singer Sofia Ribeiro have been developing common musical projects that performed through jazz clubs and festivals in Spain, Portugal, Holland, Luxembourg, France, Germany and U.S.A. A strong and successful collaboration that resulted in the recording of their first CD in October 2005.

 

This duo of young and very talented musicians with a solid jazz background lead us to an intimate journey into the world of composers of different styles, going from jazz standards to brazilian music, with some incursions on pop music and also the portuguese fado, with personal arrangements adapted to this

peculiar setting. Details, humor and silence are gaining importance, with a lot of improvisation and communication between these two instruments that, beside being in opposite extremes of range, complement each other.

 

Marc Demuth is born 04 of january 1978 in Luxembourg and recently based in Barcelona. He began his studies of jazz at the Conservatory of Luxembourg in the with E-bass as well as Jazz-theory and classical doublebass in 1994.

He continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels (Belgium) in the Jazz-department with E-bass and doublebass with Michel Hatzigeorgiou and Jean-Louis Rassinfosse. First prize (final exam of instrumental studies) obtained in 1999 on E-bass and on doublebass in 2000. Enters the Jazz-department of the Royal Conservatory The Hague with Jazz-doublebass teachers Hein van de Geyn and Frans van der Hoeven and classical bass as a side subject with Roelaf Meijer. In 2003 he obtained the Bachelor of Music degree as well as a teachers degree in pedagogy and methodology.

Continues his studies recently in a Master’s degree program having as guest teachers, besides Hein van de Geyn as a main teacher, Philippe Catherine, Hans van Osterhout, Dré Pallemaerts and some more to be specified.

During all this study time he kept performing in Luxembourg, Belgium and Holland with professional musicians like Phil Abraham, Guy Cabay, Jacques Pirroton, Felix Simtaine, Erwin Van, Richard

Rousselet, Lieven Venken, Oliver Strauch, Peter Decker, Claudio Fasoli, Ernie Hammes, Hein van de Geyn and many more. Played in Bigband projects in the Conservatory of The Hague under the conduction of John Ruocco, Kenny Werner and Michael Brecker.

Played on important festivals like Montreux Jazz Festival, Brussels Jazz Marathon, Festival Jazz A Liege, North Sea Jazz Festival, FIMU-festival in Belfort (France), 2nd European Festival in Athens (Greece) where he represented Luxembourg, Frameries Jazz (Belgium), Festival JAZZ AND SOUND in Gent (Belgium), Jazz-Rallye Luxembourg City, Benedict Jazz Festival in Clervaux and many more.

Was choosen to accompany the World Youth Choir on their winter tour 1999-2000 through Holland, Belgium, Germany and France. Won the best-soloist price in a group competition in Wavre (Belgium) July 01 organised by the Rotary Club as well as a scholarship for studying E-bass at the Berklee College of Music while participating at their annual workshop in Perugia (Italy) in July 1996. Won the second price in the LEIDEN JAZZ-BAND COMPETITION January 2003 with the Joachim Badenhorst trio.

Recently he teaches jazz-contrabass and e-bass in a Conservatory in Luxembourg while still living in Barcelona where he performs regularly with local musicians as well as in the area around like Mallorca and Menorca.
